Sports injuries are injuries that occur in athletic activities or exercising

Common causes of sports injuries

  1. Accidents,
  2. Poor training practices,
  3. Improper gear.
  4. Not in shape.
  5. Not warming up or stretching enough
  6. Overuse
  7. Too much too soon

The most common sports injuries are

  1. Sprains and strains
  2. Knee injuries/Runners Knee
  3. Swollen muscles
  4. Achilles tendon injuries
  5. Pain along the shin bone
  6. Groin pull
  7. Hip flexor strain H
  8. Hamstring strain
  9. Sheen splints
  10. Calf injuries
  11. Quadriceps strain
  12. Plantar fascial strains
  13. Achilles Tendon strains
  14. Fractures
  15. Dislocations

PREVENTION OF INJURY

A. Primary,

Primary prevention involves the avoidance of injury.

Examples are

  1. Take time off to allow the body to recover.
  2. Wear the right gear
  3. Strengthen muscles
  4. Increase flexibility by stretching
  5. Use the proper technique
  6. Have regular massage
  7. Stop the activity if there is pain.

B. Secondary prevention-

Involves early diagnosis and treatment and should be acquired once an injury has occurred. This ensures that the injury proper care and recovering correctly, therefore limiting the concern for other medical problems to stem from the initial traumatic event.

C. Tertiary prevention

Focused on the rehabilitation to reduce and correct an existing disability resulting from the traumatic event.
